G6 ESL, 9-13 May

What is happening in G6 ESL?

It is the last 4-day week before the end of school. WIDA testing is complete. Tests are now moderated, (that means they are checked by other teachers), and results will be available at the end of May.

Mr Ken will still be absent this week due to his broken arm. We wish him a speedy recovery.

There is one class for A block and two classes for H block this week.

In EAP sessions students will work on:

  • Reading comprehension tasks
  • Review vocabulary and concepts for the upcoming Material’s Economy quiz in SS
  • Review Science vocab on ecosystems
  • Practice speaking skills in preparation for the impending speeches in English.

Students will continue their persuasive presentations for a Genre Wheel book.

Keep reading for your GW challenge as well – and submit those summaries! Again, it has been wonderful to see many students making the most of the long weekends and reading!

This week students will review the Material’s Economy. They need to be able to:

  1. Identify the stages
  2. Define the terms
  3. Describe or give examples
  4. List the negative effects of the stages

Here are some videos you can watch on certain stages:

Mining & Extraction

Renewable & Non- renewable Resources

The Story of Electronics

Ghana E-waste

If these videos do not open, please go to the ESL Resources SS Q4 folder.

Students have all started researching a particular biome. This will continue and should be completed by the end of the week. This work is integrated with Math, English and Social Studies and will form the basis of a Ted Talk in the last week of school.
